LOGGING RAILWAY VEHICLES IN TAIWAN (II)

羅東森林鐵路於1924年通車,1979年結束營運,共歷時56載,係林務局太平山森林鐵路系統中之平地段,計有車站10座。全線起自羅東竹林,止於土場,共計約36公里。全線設有7座隧道與22座橋樑。

木瓜林區森林鐵路系統 (軌距762mm): 太昌線:田浦→佐倉第一號索道,長8.27公里。其中6.28公里一段,原為花蓮糖廠所有。因運木材所需,於1947年售出,1955年續鋪1.58公里。
太魯閣線:嵐山新一號索道→木瓜林區23林班,長11.2公里。本線為1952年興建,為嵐山運輸木材主要鐵路。
哈崙線:池南轉運站→木瓜林區77林班,長25.0公里。本線係為加強運輸木材,於1958年所增建。
林田山森林鐵路系統:計有萬森線、溫泉線、大觀線、高登線。林木係由索道經高登線運至高登,再以索道經大觀線,再經索道運至溫泉線續接萬森線運至萬榮。該鐵路系統原僅抵高登(海拔2,620公尺),1961年101林班結束作業須另闢伐木區,乃自高登修築34公里長之高登線,直至1971年4月完工。1983年林田山林道完成,森林鐵道 乃式微焉。

烏來觀光臺車 (軌距545mm): 烏來臺車道興建於1928年 (昭和三年) 左右,原為運送伐木機具及開採之木材用途。1951年因至烏來的公路開通,開始有遊客前來觀光,而當時烏來街區至瀑布這段僅有臺車道相連,因此便出現了手推式載客台車運送遊客至瀑布區遊玩的方式。隨著觀光客的增加,林務局復於1964年將烏來至瀑布約1.7公里的單軌路段擴建為雙軌。1974年更進一步將臺車動力機械化,同時亦廢止烏來至桶後、孝義、福山的路線,僅保留至瀑布這段作為觀光之用。
